Is there anybody there…

Ever felt like you are here but not really there… ?  do you spend most of your life living robotically, almost remotely without really being here in the now , in the present ?  it’s a fact that we spend over 90% of our lives functioning via routine…. Living life like a robot. Walking eating drinking driving working and playing without any thought involved… it’s all just habit.

Lets challenge it, change it, go on I dare you….. !!!
For the next 3 days, take just 3 minutes out of your life to STOP.

Find a place to sit, somewhere that you wont be disturbed and just close your eyes.
Weigh up and assess how relaxed you are, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being very very relaxed) the trick is not to think too much just accept the first number that pops into your head because that’s your inner intelligence talking and it’s not been corrupted or clouded by your conscious mind.


Now taking in a deep breath..... in slowly and out slowly....... breathing from your diaphragm rather than your upper chest…this abdominal breathing is one of the best relaxation techniques…
So now with your eyes tightly closed focus your attention upon your hearing
Listen to the sound of the air as it enters your nostrils, and subsequently, as you exhale just notice the tone the pitch the volume.  Now take that sense of your hearing further inside and see if you can notice any sounds within your body… perhaps you can hear your heart beating? 
Now extend your hearing to the outside of your body and notice every sound, both near and far, beyond your body. All these sounds serve as signs and signals to help you to relax… as you continuing breathing deeply, move your focus to your sense of touch…… what are you feeling?  Can you feel the sensation of your clothes against your skin?  How do you feel inside ?  What emotions are you feeling?  Be aware of them, acknowledge them without trying to resolve them. 
Now bring your focused attention back to your breathing which may have become shallow at the mention of feeling your emotions. 
Deepen your breathing again. 
Finally just open your eyes and allow yourself to be here now at one and present with everything that’s surrounding you…both near and far.  Take in the colours, the depths the tones and the textures…tune into the sharpness or softness the clarity etc.

Now take another assessment of your degree of relaxation…scaling it from 1 to 10.  Did you notice a change? 

This exercise is a great stress reliever. It  allows you to become more present in your life….allows you to be more aware and in so doing you will be able to enjoy all that life is offering but which you might not have noticed in your previous day to day existance. 

It only takes 3 minutes out of your day although I suspect that once you develop this as a routine you will want to do it more often throughout the day to be able to reap even greater benefits.  And lets be honest  if you can’t find 3 minutes in your day for relaxation…something is seriously and sadly wrong in your life !

This is your time, you deserve to be more aware of life…. Life is too short to let it go past without noticing.
